THE STORY

Driven was born from an adventure across Australia — and it turned out to be much harder than I first imagined. I set out on a solo motorcycle ride around the continent, including the island of Tasmania, a journey that took me nearly six months to complete.

One of the songs, Steel Horses, was written in Tasmania while I was searching for the elusive Tasmanian Devil. I had ferried my motorcycle across on the Spirit of Tasmania from Melbourne after two spirited Aussies insisted that I couldn’t claim to have truly crossed Australia without riding across “Tassie” as well.

The album also includes September, written by my friend and bandmate back in Alaska. I decided to include it because of its powerful imagery and the way it fit naturally with the spirit of the record.

Driven is as much about the road and the stories found along it as it is about the music — a record shaped by landscapes, people, and the challenge of the journey itself.
