Who is Tom DEAN?

A bit about my story

Hi, I’m Tom dean, and I’m originally from Spokane, Washington, USA. I write and record rock and roll music. I currently live on the island of Phuket in southern Thailand. I draw inspiration from the beauty of Thailand. My recording studio is in a house on the beach overlooking the Andaman Sea.  All of my albums were produced, mixed, and mastered by Gary Crause at Legend Music in Phuket.

I grew up on a farm in northeast Washington, always wanting to be a musician — though the path wasn’t easy. To pay the bills, I became a professional wildland firefighter, but music was always my dream. I eventually moved to Alaska, where I spent summers fighting fires across the U.S. and Canada, and winters playing rock and roll under the northern lights. Fire and ice - that was my life for many years.

When I retired from firefighting, I moved to Thailand to pursue music full time. Not long after finishing my second album here, the COVID pandemic hit worldwide. I decided to  write and record Empty Places, an album inspired by how the pandemic was affecting people’s lives. One of the highlights of my music career was performing songs from my albums written during covid at a benefit concert to support local charities in Thailand.

As a singer-songwriter, I focus on contemporary rock and roll. For me, music is about expression — capturing pure emotion in a song is always the challenge, and the reward.
